Stephanie Lawyer has worked as an editor for over thirty years. Her career has been eclectic, defined not only by her enthusiasm for language, writers, and the publishing process but also by the places she has lived and the authors she has worked with.

Stephanie grew up in Mexico and has lived and worked in the United States, the UK, and Hong Kong. After graduating from Edinburgh University with an MA in Spanish and Portuguese, she joined Secker & Warburg publishers in London. Located in Soho, Secker published an extensive list of poetry and fiction, both original and in translation, including works by Carlos Fuentes, Gunter Grass, Umberto Eco, and Italo Calvino. As an editorial assistant, Stephanie read and evaluated manuscripts written in Spanish.

Later, she moved back to the United States and joined the editorial department at Little, Brown and Company in Boston, MA.

Stephanie also worked for more than a decade in Hong Kong as a freelance editor. In 1987, she opened the first literary agency in the city, traveling to Beijing, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur in search of emerging voices.

In 1995, Stephanie moved with her family to Seattle, WA, where she landed a job with Microsoft as a technical editor. At the same time she judged fiction for the Kiriyama Book Prize, edited the online literary magazine, WaterBridge Review, and worked with the Raven Chronicles as an editor and board member.

Stephanie currently lives in Albuquerque, NM, where she works as a freelance editor and translator.

Stephanie Lawyer ha trabajado como editora durante más de treinta años. Su carrera has sido ecléctica, definida no sólo por su entusiasmo por el lenguaje, los escritores y el proceso de publicación sino también por los lugares donde ha vivido y los autores con quienes ha trabajado.

Stephanie creció en México y vivió y trabajó en los Estados Unidos, el Reino Unido y Hong Kong. Después de graduarse en la Universidad de Edimburgo con una maestría en español y portugués, ingresó a la editorial Secker & Warburg en Londres. Situada en el Soho, Secker publicó una amplia lista de poesía y ficción, tanto en el original como en traducción, que incluía las obras de Carlos Fuentes, Gunter Grass, Umberto Eco e Ítalo Calvino. Como asistente editorial, Stephanie leía y evaluaba los manuscritos escritos en español.
