Dr. Josefa Báez-Ramos holds a PhD in Hispanic Philology (Linguistics and Literature in Spanish) from the University of Salamanca, Spain, with a certificate of advanced studies in Latin and Ancient Greek.
She has broad experience as editor, school administrator, and professor of Spanish Language, its grammar, and its literatures, in Spain as well as in the USA.
Dr. Báez-Ramos has authored and prepared the edition of several books. These included the 1939 Spanish exile, many articles for academic journals related to Spanish grammar, 19th and 20th century Spanish literature, and other materials related to teaching Spanish as a native language, as a Heritage language, and as a foreign or additional language.
She has edited and evaluated textbooks for Editorial Santillana, as well as novels for authors and other publishing organizations.
She has taught doctoral courses of Spanish literature at the School of History at the University of Salamanca. She was a Spanish literature professor at the Máster Universitario en Lengua y Cultura Españolas, at the International Courses of the University of Salamanca. As such, she oversaw and coordinated the final project (Trabajo de fin de máster, TFM) of teachers-students related to a diverse body of topics related to Spanish language and Spanish literature. In addition to supervising the academic content of the written dissertations, her direction included thorough academic attention to the Spanish vocabulary and grammar used in their papers.
As a member of AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese), she was regularly reviewing contemporary Spanish literature for their publication, Hispania.
As a representative of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Dr. Báez-Ramos was the Spanish Education Advisor for the states of Washington and Oregon for the period of 2004-09. During her assignment, she directed the Spanish Resource Center at the University of Washington (Seattle), and, as a Spanish Language Consultant, she worked in translations and proofreading of administrative and school related papers at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Olympia, Washington, and at the Department of Education in Salem, Oregon.
Dr. Baez-Ramos’s awards include the ProLingua Award 2006 as Director of the Center for Spanish Studies, at the University of Washington (Seattle, Washington), the Outstanding Contribution to the Teaching of World Languages in the Pacific Northwest Award, and the Continued Distinguished Services Certificate from WAFLT (Washington Association of Language Teaching) in 2008, and the 2021 Bremer Trust Exceptional Faculty Award, from Olympic College, Washington.

Josefa Báez-Ramos es doctora en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad de Salamanca (España), con certificación de diplomatura en lenguas clásicas, latín y griego. En el sistema educativo español, es catedrática de Lengua Castellana y Literatura de Educación Secundaria.
Tiene una amplia y dilatada experiencia como correctora de pruebas, administradora escolar y profesora de Español -con énfasis en su gramática y sus diversas literaturas- tanto en España como en los Estados Unidos de América.
Báez-Ramos es autora y ha preparado la edición de varios libros. En ellos se incluyen los relacionados con el exilio español de 1939, la publicación de numerosos artículos para revistas profesionales relacionados con la gramática del español o castellano, la literatura española de los siglos XIX y XX, y otros relacionados con la didáctica del español como lengua nativa, como lengua de herencia y como lengua extranjera.
Asimismo, ha revisado libros de texto y obras de ficción para diversas editoriales (Santillana entre ellas), y trabajado como consultora lingüística en obras literarias de autores individuales.
Báez-Ramos ha impartido cursos de doctorado sobre literatura española en la Facultad de Historia de la Universidad de Salamanca. Ha sido profesora en el Máster Universitario en Lengua y Cultura Españolas, de Cursos Internacionales de la Universidad de Salamanca, y dirigió el Trabajo de fin de máster (TFM) a maestros-estudiantes interesados en temas gramaticales y literarios de la lengua española. La dirección del TFM incluía, además de supervisar el contenido académico del trabajo, una rigurosa atención al vocabulario y a la morfosintaxis en la articulación del proyecto.
Como miembro de la AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese), Báez-Ramos escribió periódicamente durante 15 años (1994-2009) la crítica de novelas españolas contemporáneas para la revista de la asociación, Hispania.
Como representante del Ministerio español de Educación en Estados Unidos, durante el periodo de 2004-2009, Báez -Ramos fue destinada a los estados de Washington y Oregon. Durante este periodo, dirigió el Centro Español de Recursos ubicado en la Universidad de Washington, en Seattle. En tanto que Asesora Lingüística asignada a la Oficina del Superintendente de Enseñanza Pública (OSPI) en Olympia, Washington, y al Departamento de Educación en Salem, Oregon, trabajó en traducciones y corrección de pruebas de textos administrativos y educativos en español.
